Welcome to the Chapter 8: Captivity page of the Half-Life: Alyx IGN Wiki Guide! You're traveling through a tunnel after having just survived your encounter in the vodka distillery.

The level starts out with you following a cave pattern. No sooner than you begin the level do you find a hole the wall. Enter through it, and discover a treasure trove of toilet paper.

Continue into the next area, where you can pick up some shotgun shells and a couple of Resin nearby. You'll also find a weapon upgrade station and a battery receptacle. Find the loose battery hanging out in a closet full of Xen coral, then insert it into the receptacle.

While you're at it, here's how to unlock the weapon upgrade station:

When you're ready, pull the handle next to the glowing button at the gate, and move on through. You can find a Resin and a pistol clip in the next room as you move through the crashed wall and into the main entrance to the zoo. Explore the various exhibits around you to find more ammo and a couple of Resins.

When you're ready, head back onto the thoroughfare and head deeper into the zoo. Jump down off of the railing, and fight your first swarm of antlions. Antlions can be easily killed by picking off their legs and abdomens, but don't let them get close to you or swarm you. When you shoot an antlion's abdomen, it launches into the air and explodes, dealing collateral damage to enemies nearby.

Make your way down across the thoroughfare and pick up two Resins hiding up in the rocky crags above you on your way to the next section of the zoo. You'll find a pre-loaded medical station next, and a garage door that you need to open by lifting it up with both hands. On the other side of the door, you'll be swarmed by headcrabs and a zombie. Pick them off quickly, then continue into the pavilion. The exhibit windows have ammo, health syringes, and at least one Resin hiding in them, so they're worth checking out. One of them has a crawlspace into the next area.

When you come out of the crawlspace, take a left and go through the door, climb over the boxes, and enter a small room with a Resin inside. Turn back and then climb over the feeding trough with barnacles hiding behind it on the other side.

Shoot your way through the barnacles, then climb onto the mannequins to your left and find a Resin. Head back out the opposite corridor and exit into a forested area full of zombies. Climb up onto the nearby rocks and pick the zombies off as efficiently as you can, then make a break for the Xen grenade dispenser on the nearby bridge.

Make your way down the path to where headcrab zombies await in nearby buildings. Throw in Xen grenades and flush them out. Note that there's a second Xen grenade dispenser on the ground near both windowed buildings. There's also a Resin in a feeding trough just past the Xen grenade dispenser. Head underneath the bridge when you're ready, but make sure to dispatch the bloaters before you do.

In the next room, grab the pistol clip and head up the ramp to the "Exit" sign. Turn around and you'll find the bird exhibit has a Resin sitting inside of it. Head through the corridor until you see a sign in Russian. Take a right up some stairs and you'll find another two Resins at the top. Head back down the stairs and turn toward the sign again. Take a left to find another Resin.

Now turn around and gather pistol and SMG rounds in the windows to the right, next to the trapped headcrab. In the next room is a health syringe and a Resin laying next to some boxes. Head down the next corridor and you'll hear a firefight breaking out to your left. Turn right to collect another Resin before moving on.

In the next area, climb up the inside of the crashed van and snipe the Combine soldier with your pistol. Target the explosive barrel to kill them quickly, then take point and shoot at all of the incoming antlions as they swarm your position. Drop down when you're ready to move. Just ahead of you, on a rock, is another Resin.

Next, climb up the side of the wooden railing and turn left into the hole in the wall. Jump through the wall to the other side and continue on your path. The next area is in a giant metal grating that's fallen to the ground. You can identify it by the foggy floor and the large outlet pipe inside. There's a Resin in the outlet pipe, and another one on the blue pipes to your left. It's more visible if you walk up one of the ramps.

The first ramp you should walk up is the one to your left as you enter, which will put you face-to-face with another headcrab zombie. Kill it, then pull out your Multi-Tool to fix the circuit in the next room, unlocking a door to some ammo and a grub. On your way back out, two of the tripmines on the wall will have been reactivated. You'll need to disarm at least the very bottom tripmine so you can sneak out, or disarm both if you prefer.

The opposite ramp will take you to a medical station and another hole in the wall. Go through the hole in the wall to be ambushed by another antlion. Kill the antlion, then pop into the supply closet in front of you to grab a Resin off of a dead Combine. Doing so will activate a grenade, so get out of there quickly!

Get back onto the main path and through the next door. Kill the bloater that's blocking your entry into the next room. Once you're in, you'll see a giant blue Combine shield on your left, with another sensor next to it. Pull out your Multi-Tool and set the conduit junctions up until the circuit is complete.

Next, find the part of the room which is infested by Xen. Shoot the bloaters until they explode, climb up to where the next sensor is, and activate it with your Multi-Tool. Complete that circuit as well, activating a third sensor in the room, next to the closed garage door. The third sensor is the trickiest, so here's how it should be configured:

When the garage door opens, you'll see two tripmines. Let the headcrabs trigger them as they scuttle out toward you. Head into the hallway and shoot the headcrab zombies and armored headcrabs inside. There's a Resin on a shelf nearby.

Head into the kitchen, where you'll find several Resin in nearby pantry cupboards, as well as shotgun shells and at least one healing syringe. You'll need to bring electricity into this room to solve this part. It's a bit complicated, so here are the steps in screenshots:

Shoot the headcrab that comes up through the pipes, and solve the next circuit puzzle across the room:

Once the switch is flipped on the breaker box, the shield will be shut off and you can proceed to the next area. But first, head back to the hole in the kitchen wall and reopen the gate, like so:

On your way back out, you'll encounter a squad of Combine soldiers and a heavy. Make quick work of them, and you'll find yourself in a room full of liquid tanks and a hanging dead antlion.

There's a medical station and a grub in this room, so heal up if you need to. Continue down the corridor and leap off of the ramp, and that wraps things up for Chapter 8: Captivity.
